Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job summary: To research, develop, design, and/or test a wide range of machinery, equipment and mechanical systems—as standard products, customized standard products and new innovative internally designed products. This could be for DDCE proprietary equipment or in conjunction with vendors for supplied equipment to any point along DDCE's value chain. To develop routine maintenance requirements for the machinery developed as well as leading the development of a general computerized maintenance plan for Licensee's of the DDCE technology.

Summary of essential job functions:

  1. Evaluating equipment and components for industrial application and modifying design as necessary to suit DDCE system needs. For example:
    1. Pretreater mechanical seals and valves
    2. Conveyors, drag chains and other solids handling equipment
    3. Evaluate new concepts proposed by R&D (e.g. new pretreater)
  2. Develop and test energy efficient size reduction equipment/systems to preprocess biomass upstream of pretreatment (corn cob, switchgrass, sorghum)

  3. Lead effort to understand feedstock densification (e.g. pelletizing, briquetting)

  4. Assist DDCE Feedstock team by providing input on:
    1. farm implement equipment suppliers for harvesting/gathering/baling
    2. methods of transport (trucks, rail, barge)
    3. methods of storing
  5. Create customized computerized maintenance management program for DDCE customers

DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol (DDCE) is offering opportunities to work in an innovative biorefinery setting. Qualifications:

  • Minimum education: high-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Post high-school education a plus
  • 5 years plant manufacturing or science facility experience or equivalent
  • Solid understanding of plant operations and maintenance
  • Operating experience should include liquid and dry unit operations, such as pumps, heat exchangers, reactors, evaporation, distillation, material handling
  • Experience in chemical processing and ethanol production desired
  • Excellent job references

  • Be able and willing to perform multiple tasks
  • Have flexibility to work rotating 12-hour shifts and other variations
